Fluency Practice resources

Fluency Practice helps students in Grades 1–5 build accuracy and speed with their math facts, running automatically alongside the core curriculum. These guides cover what it is, how it works for students, and how you track and manage it as a teacher.

The four methods behind it: Fact Builder for accuracy, Speed Builder with a count-up timer, Targeted Practice on the facts a student missed, and Fact Review to keep mastered facts fresh.

How it shows up for students: it appears on its own once a child is in Grades 1–5 and has put in at least 15 minutes and two completed tasks, then recurs on a set cycle through the week.

How often it happens: a short session after every 15 minutes of curriculum work, following a 15–2–15–2–15–5 rhythm that resets each Monday, plus a 5-minute bonus once weekly targets are met.

Whether you can pick topics: right now you cannot set them manually — Fluency chooses each student’s topics automatically from their placement, progress, and how they do on specific facts.

Whether you can turn it off: it is on by default and cannot be switched off from the teacher dashboard; for special cases the article points you to support.

Whether it slows the curriculum: it does not — a session starts only after a student finishes their current task, and most of their time still goes to regular educational work.

How licensing affects it: Fluency Practice comes with the Happy Numbers Premium subscription, which unlocks the adaptive features including fluency and its progress tracking and reporting.

Reading the class report: a color-coded view in the Reports tab across the four domains, showing who has mastered, is in progress, or is struggling, with flags for students who are stuck or have not practiced in three weeks.

Where the data lives: the class-level Fluency Report is available now, and a more detailed student-level report — down to individual facts — is on the way.
