Placement Test resources
Every student's Happy Numbers journey starts with the Placement Test. It checks what a child is ready for and puts them at the right spot in the curriculum, so instruction lands at the right level from day one. The resources below walk you through it, from the first run to reading scores and acting on them.
1. First Run — Placement Test to Create a Learning Pathway
The full walkthrough: what the test measures, timing by grade, and how to set students up for an accurate placement.
2. How to read the assessment scores
A score like 210 stops being a mystery once you see the pattern. The first character is the grade; the last two digits are how far into that grade the student has mastered. So 210 is about 10% into 2nd grade, and K15 is 15% into Kindergarten. One format across every test and grade level.
3. How can Happy Numbers assessment results inform tiered intervention?
Scores only matter if they change what you do. This guide maps results onto three tiers: grade-level instruction for most students, targeted help for those below standard, and intensive support for the lowest 20%. It also shows how the Placement, Mid-Year, and End-of-Year tests let you move students between tiers as their needs shift.
4. The Quantile® Measures and Happy Numbers Assessments
The reason behind the numbers. Quantile® measures, from MetaMetrics®, rate both what a student can do and how hard a given concept is. This guide explains grade-level ranges, what a very high score does and does not mean (a strong result is not a green light to skip a grade), and where negative values fit for PreK and Kindergarten.
Together they cover the whole arc: give the test, read the results, and turn them into a plan for every student in the room.
